STUDENTS: Classes Back in Session

Attendance: Students are allowed 8 absences per class per semester.  Please use these for illness/injury. Avoid absences for non-emergency appointments, trips, DMV, etc.  We don’t want you to feel pressured to send your child to school sick, but we also don’t want students out of class any more than is necessary.  It puts a strain on the teacher as well as the student.  Any extended absences (3 or more days) that are not illness-related, including college visits, must be pre-approved by the principal.

Tardies:  Students have 5 “free” tardies to the 1st and 5th periods each semester.  They are issued detention on the 6th tardy and each subsequent tardy after for the semester.  Those 5 “free” tardies should be used for extenuating circumstances, not just regular LA area traffic.  If your student has received detentions for excessive tardies, it’s time to have a talk with them.

Dress code: The link for the Global Schoolwear Company is https://www.globalschoolwear.com/  Students may purchase polos, fleece jackets, sweatshirts, sweaters, and ¾ zip pullovers from this website or ND teams/clubs/activities.
Solid-colored sweatshirts are NOT allowed.  Notre Dame beanies may be worn outside only. Sweatpants are not allowed.  The full dress code rules may be viewed in the Student-Parent Handbook located on the ND website under the Parents tab. Note: Our daily announcements for students are also posted under the parent tab for parents to see.

Parking:  All students who drive to school must register their car and receive a sticker to display on the front windshield, even if parking off campus. This can all be done at the Attendance window.  There is a $25 fee, but if that presents a financial hardship, just let the deans know and we will take care of it. It is extremely important to be able to identify students’ cars in the neighborhood.  We might even be able to help you avoid a car being towed or ticketed if there is a sticker on the car.

Student-to-student issues:  If your child is having trouble at school with another peer, or any other issue, encourage them to talk to a counselor or dean, or use the incident reporting tool that is now available to students through their Canvas account, or this link below. Working through conflict is an opportunity for growth for both students.
